One of my fave beaches. And most of 2023 it had sand. All rocks again now but how lovely it was with the sand.
I loved this photograph, so it's been a plan to cut it since I took the picture. The combination and strength of the foreground shapes makes it quite an unusual composition.
I have found this my most confusing puzzle of a print so far. I got a bit stuck in the middle but it all worked out in the end.

Drawing on lino
First colour, the lightest yellow of the water in the pool reflections
2nd colour for all those tiny dancing water light reflections
3rd warm shadows on the water
4th getting confused wit the rockpool so printed the sky and sea
5th the rocks,which starts to make sense of the composition
6th back to the pool, surface light
7th the light patterns on the pool become clearer
8th sea and blue in the pool

9 purple 10 turquoise. Beach and pool shadows
11 brown on all rocks. Beginning of rock details
12 another brown shaping the rock patterns
13 grey/green in the pool putting those rocks underwater
14 a reddish brown colouring the rocks

So it took me 29 colours to achieve the image I wanted.
