Back in July 22 I visited Kynance Cove on a gorgeous July evening with my sister.
We swam in the sparkling water and I came home with lots of inspiring photos.
April 23 I produced a print I named Kynance Light and it was my fastest selling print.
Since then I've kept looking at this photograph and wondering if it was suitable for a print. The blurred patch at the front and the stretched wave had me a bit worried as to whether it would look weird and not work, but the more I kept seeing this photo the more I really liked it, it wasn't going away so here it is.
From the beginning
photo flipped and the drawing on the lino
to get the haze around the light sparkles I printed a pale buff colour first
next the pale yellow colour of the light patterns in the waves
there's a lot of light in this picture and I didn't want to go dark too quickly , here's the first pale blue of the sea
after cutting out the pale yellow highlights in the waves the next colour is a pale green
next I put 3 colours on at once, a darker blue, a darker green and a brown of the sand below the shallow wave
another darker blue builds up the waves
starting the light on the rocks at the back,
a rust/plum where the sun catches the edges
the first grey of the distant rocks,
the rust lines are there but hard to see in this pic
next I put on a graduated shade of the rust/plum where the sunlight shone from behind
hanging up to dry
the rocks have another dark grey on them
for the final layer I added 4 colours at the same time
and got this
which I'm very happy with and think the blurry wave bit at the front worked really well, the print has kept the hazy quality I wanted.
Wish we'd had evenings like this in July this summer, and in memory of such evenings I'm calling it July ( also because June is now sold out I thought I needed a July)
